The beautiful dirty picture...

सिल्क.. एक बोल्ड, सॉफ्ट पॉर्न अक्ट्रेस. काहीच नाही पासून तिच्या नाववर चित्रपट चालण्याइतका प्रवास. कदाचित एका उबदार प्रेमळ सोबतीची कायमच आयुष्यात राहिलेली उणीव आणि अचानकरित्या केलेली आत्महत्या.. खरंतर हा चित्रपट बघायला जाताना मनात थोडी धाकधून होतीच की एखाद्या माणसाच्या वादग्रस्त आयुष्यावर चित्रपट काढायचा म्हणून नुसताच मसाला तर नसेल ना? पण सुदैवाने एक खूप चांगलं स्क्रिप्ट तितक्याच चांगल्या प्रकारे हाताळलं गेलय. मिलन लुथरियांची आधीची फिल्मोग्राफी इतकी इंप्रेसिव्ह नाहीये पण तरीही चांगलं दिग्दर्शन म्हणता येई़ल.
हल्लीच्या काळात इतका संवादप्रधान हिंदी चित्रपट अभावानेच पाहिलाय मी. व्हेज, नॉनव्हेज, द्वयर्थी, फिलॉसॉफिकल, मनोरंजक सगळ्या प्रकारच्या संवादांची चित्रपटात रेलचेल आहे. संवादाला टाळ्या आणि शिट्ट्या पडाव्या इतकी. ८० च्या काळातला टिपिकल माहोल उभा करत, त्याकाळच्या चित्रपटांवर मार्मिक भाष्य करत या सृष्टीतल्या अस्थिरतेवर पुन्हा एकदा नजर टाकलीये.
विद्या बालन एक मुरलेली अभिनेत्री आहेच त्यामुळे तिच्या अभिनयाबद्दल काही बोलायची गरज नाही. पण कितीही नाही म्हटलं तरी फर्स्ट हाफ मध्ये ती विद्या आहे हे जाणवत राहतं. थोडी बोल्ड पण विद्याच वाटते ती. सिल्कला ज्या लोकांनी पडद्यावर पाहिलंय त्यांना सहजच हा फरक कळून येईल. पण चित्रपट जसजसा पुढे सरकत जातो तसतशी ती अधिकाधिक सिल्क वाटत गेलिये. अर्थात सेकंड हाफ मध्ये इमोशनल, तणावाचे आणि संघर्षात्मक हावभाव जास्त आहेत हे कारण आहेच पण मेक अप पण का कोण जाणे त्या भागात जास्त जमून गेलाय.
अडीच तासांचा चित्रपट काढायचाच होता तर थोडा भर तिच्या चित्रपटपूर्व आयुष्यावर द्यायला हवा होता असं मला वाटलं पण हा चित्रपट सिल्क स्मितावर नाहीच्चे असंच सगळा क्रू म्हणायला लागल्यावर या वाटण्याला फार अर्थ उरत नाही.
नसीर तर नसीर आहे पण हा चित्रपट सबकुछ विद्या आहे. त्यांची जोडी भारीच आहे. इम्रान हश्मी पण सुसह्य आहे चक्क या चित्रपटात. एकता मुळे तुषारला मिळालेला रोल तसा लहान आहे ही अजून एक जमेची बाजू. अंजू महेंद्रूने केलेला फिल्म क्रिटीकचा रोल हा अभिनयाच्या दृष्टीने चांगलाच पण सिल्कच्या व्यक्तिमत्वाचा खरेपणा तिच्या या रुपामुळे जो कळणार नाही तो स्पष्ट बोलून मांडायला त्या व्यक्तिरेखेचा उपयोग केलाय. ते ही ठिकच म्हणा.
चांगलं वाईट, आदर्श, संस्कार, बरोबर, चूक याचा काथ्याकूट न करता एक व्यक्तिचित्रण म्हणून चित्रपट पाहिल्यास नक्कीच एक चांगला चित्रपट पाहिल्याचं समाधान मिळतं. साडेतीन स्टार डिझर्व करणारा चित्रपट नक्कीच आहे हा.

रॉकस्टार..

The most awaited music drama of the year is finally released... "रॉकस्टार" हा म्युझिक ड्रामा तर झालाय पण ती एक प्रेमकथा आहे. आणि त्यात एका रॉकस्टारची कथा फार कमी आहे. एक कोणतीही जनरल लव्ह स्टोरी म्हणून खपून गेली असती (ज्यात हिरो पोटापाण्याचा उद्योग म्हणून गायक आहे.. ;-) ) फिल्मविषयी चांगली गोष्ट म्हणजे म्युझिक. गाणी पहिल्यांदा ऐकली तेव्हा अपेक्षाभंग झाल्यासारखा वाटलेला. अस वाटत होतं की Rockstar music is lacking of rock पण फिल्म पाहताना फक्त म्युझिकच रॉकचा फील देतं. कारण मूळ कथेत फारसा दम नाही. एक चांगला विषय आणि इम्तियाज सारखा दिग्दर्शक असताना कथा खूप चांगल्या पद्धतीने मांडली जायला हवी होती. जे झालेलं नाहीये. मुळात नायकाचं संगीताविषयीचं प्रेम, रॉकस्टार बनण्याची इच्छा, त्याचं मध्यमवर्गीय असणं यातली कोणतीच गोष्ट ठळकपणे व्यक्त होत नाही. बर्र, पूर्वायुष्य जाऊ दे पण त्याचा नंतरचा पण संघर्ष नीट मांडला न गेल्यामुळे त्याचं अग्रेसिव्ह होणं पण पटत नाही. त्याचा आधीच्या आयुष्यातला इनोसन्स दाखवायला रणबीरला जमलं नाही. मतिमंद वाटतो. त्यामानाने नंतरचा अभिनय बराय..(कदाचित तो त्याच्या स्वभावाच्या जवळ जाणारा असावा.. ;-) ) त्याचं हीरविषयीचं प्रेम जसं व्यक्त झालय तसं त्याचं संगीताविषयी पण व्यक्त व्हायला हवं होतं. दोघांची केमिस्ट्री चांगली आहे पण कथेत त्यांच्या प्रेमाची खोलीदेखिल नीट आली नाहीये. नातं बांधलं जातानाचा आणि घट्ट होतानाचा काळ तो इंपॅक्ट सोडत नाही आपल्यावर. आता नर्गिस फाकरीविषयी, इम्तियाजला परदेशी नायिकांमध्ये काय इंटरेस्ट आहे हे एक कळत नाही.. ;-) त्याला काश्मिरी ब्युटीच वापरायची होती तर आपली (?) कॅट काय वाईट होती? आणि नाही म्हणायला बॉलीवूडमध्ये इतकी वर्षे काढल्यावर थोडा फार अभिनय करते ती. त्यामानाने नर्गिस म्हणजे काहीच नाही. दिसायला पण कॅटसारखी नाही, नाचताही येत नाही, अभिनयही नाही.. संवाद असायला हवे तितके फाडू नाहीत. पण चांगलं संगीत आणि तेही मुबलक वापरल्यामुळे चित्रपट बघू शकतो आपण शेवटपर्यंत. (पावणेतीन तास..) इर्शाद कामिलचं लिरीक्स पण भारी. भारी अशा अर्थी की एका सिनेमाचं संगीत म्हणून जे असतं त्यापेक्षा प्रयत्नपूर्वक ते वेगळं ठेवायला चांगलच जमलय त्यांना. बाकी, शम्मी कपूर ला बघून भरुन आलं मला तरी. कथानकाला वेग आहे. १४ गाणी असूनही जास्त वाटत नाहीत हे विशेष.
एकूणातच चित्रपट एकदा पाहू शकतो पण एका रॉकस्टारची कथा म्हणून नाही तर एक म्युझिकल लव्ह स्टोरी म्हणून. आणि म्हणायचंच झालं तर चित्रपटाचे खरे रॉकस्टार आहेत रेहमान आणि कामिल.. :-)

देऊळ

"ज्याला देव हवा आहे त्यानं तो आपापला शोधावा.. ज्याला नको आहे त्यानं शोधू नये, हे स्वातंत्र्य सगळ्यांना आहे" हे जितकं खरं आहे तितकंच हे ही खरं आहे की ज्याला कथा हवी असते, त्याला ती कुठेही मिळते, तो ती मांडतो.. ती पाहण्याचं किंवा न पाहण्याचं स्वातंत्र्य सगळ्यांना आहे.. पण लोकहो, हे स्वातंत्र्य घ्या आणि 'देऊळ' नक्की पहा. मध्यंतरापर्यंत फार्सिकल टोन असलेला सिनेमा, मध्यंतरानंतर बराच गंभीर होतो. सिनेमाचं नाव आणि टॅग लाइन वाचून काही आडाखे बांधले असतील तर ते बर्‍यापैकी खरे निघतात पण खरी गंमत कथेच्या मांडणीत आहे. सामाजिक विषयावर भाष्य करतानादेखिल चित्रपटाची एक निश्चित कथा आणि त्या कथेची मागणी पूर्ण करत असणारी कलाकृती ही कधीही सरस ठरते. खूप सार्‍या व्यक्तिरेखांसह एक मोठा कालपट पडद्यावर मांडताना त्याला इतक्या कमी वेळात न्याय देणं तुलनेने अवघड असतं पण ही गोष्ट खूप उत्तम पेलली गेलीये. दोन्ही भाग, मध्यंतरा पर्यंत आणि नंतर थोडे मोठे वाटले. १० मि. मे बी. पण सगळं मिळून चित्रपट मोठा वाटत नाही. चित्रपट पाहता पाहता, शेवटाकडे येताना, "हा, बरं मग? हे असं होतं माहितेय! मग म्हणायचं काय आहे" असा प्रश्न पडू शकेल नेमक्या अशाच वेळी क्लायमॅक्स येतो आणि आपण परत एकदा सावरुन बसतो. (क्लायमॅक्स पण १५ च्या ऐवजी १० च मि. चा हवा होता, काय घडणार आहे हे कळल्यानंतर प्रसंग लगेच संपला असता तरी चालू शकत होतं.) पण या एक दोन बाबींखेरीज चित्रपट म्हणजे खरी मेजवानी आहे.
गिरीश आणि उमेश कुलकर्णींचा सिनेमा, त्यातही नाना, दिलीप प्रभावळकर, सो कुल, उषा नाडकर्णी, मोहन आगाशे, किशोर कदम असले तगडे कलाकार असल्यामुळे व्यक्तिरेखांची मांडणी, संवाद, अभिनय या गोष्टींविषयी वेगळ्याने बोलायची गरज नाही. त्या उत्तम आहेत असा अंदाज बांधला होताच. तो खरा निघाला याचा आनंद आहे. तिन्ही गाणी उत्तम झालियेत. "देवा तुला शोधू कुठं" आणि "दत्त दत्त" गाण्यांचा वापर खूपच प्रभावी. गोष्टी माहित असतात तरीही त्या पुन्हा मांडलेल्या पहाताना विषण्णता दाटून येते, ती येणं खूप महत्वाचं असतं कारण त्यातच सिनेमाचं यश आहे. (प्रयोग फसला तर "त्यात काय नवीन, हे माहितीच होतं" असाही विचार येऊ शकतो. तो येत नाही.) उत्तम लँडस्केपस हा नेहमीप्रमाणेच अजून एक प्लस पॉइंट. पण आधीच्या चित्रपटांत विशेषकरुन न वापरलेली रात्रीची काही दृश्य लई म्हणजे लई भारी वाटली. माळरानावरच्या तार्‍यांनी भरलेल्या रात्री खूपच नेत्रसुखद होत्या. नसीरुद्दीन चा वावर अतिशय नेमका. टायटल पडतानाचं सँड अ‍ॅनिमेशनदेखिल मस्त.
एकूणच हा सिनेमा म्हणजे "कंप्लीट पॅकेज" आहे. देव करो आणि हा सिनेमा तुमच्याकडून मिस न होवो..

My friend Pinto

Well, how many of us are still really interested in watching the ghisepite Mr. Bean scenes? If you are "My friend pinto" is the movie for you. The regular story, a friend coming from small city, completely unaware of rules and life of mumbai, and then he spreads happiness around him with his innocence and pure heart, dil ki suno and all that stuff...
The new look of Prateik and Kalki attracted me towards the movie but alas, I would have paid more attention towards name of director and producer. Prateik must be congratulated for his acting skills. I mean its really hard to maintain only one expression for complete 2 hours. :-P The character of Pinto is not charismatic enough though they have tried to show him a complete naive, not using even cell phones and all. Ajay-Atul have done okay okay job in music. Kalki has very small role. All other characters are okay. But basically the very much used story cant entertain viewers, however you present it. Watch once if you are going with family and kids. Otherwise you can miss it.. :-)

Mere brother ki dulhan

 You read the movie name 'Mere brother ki dulhan'. You read the cast : Katrina and Imran.. You read the banner: Yash Raj films.. Then also if you expect to see a real film, its your fault.. Well, but if you wish to see the same shadi story with masala and music, this film lives upto your expectations. It did in my case. The film has no connections with 'Sorry bhai' or 'My brother's wife', if at all you are thinking on that line. The film ensures entertainment and full masala. The 'maa's are typical 'maa's, dads are typical dads, same lovely brother (kinda filmy), typical friends, a very calm hero and thodisi paagal, free spirited, impulsive heroine.. The film is about 2.30 hrs. The first hours is very entertaining. Songs coming in this part, 'dhundu mere brother ki dulhan' and 'dhunaki' just rock. Katrina has carried a killing attitude in dhunaki song. She is getting better film by film. Imran just fits in the role. Though the whole story is typical, thankfully they havent shown both loving the same girl. With typical things happening in their love story, like going for shopping and doing crazy things, acting melodramatically on the road, boozing and partying etc, the story gives us real pleasant surprises at few moments. I mean I really laughed when Dimple gets scared if Kush has really died due to overdose of sleeping pills and starts crying besides highway.  The 2nd hour is also well, but we feel it a bit dull as we have been used to great fun in the film till that point. Songs may seem boring sometimes. 'Ishq risk' is good one in second hour. But rest are just so so... With not so climaxes and filmy dramas, film ends at fairly good note.
Well, I am happy that I watched it pretty late. 70rs was worth it. You can definitely watch the film once if you want to enjoy the bolywood's all time favorite family shadi drama.. :-)

That girl in yellow boots

Why do you watch movies? For fun, timepass, masti? Or you really think film is an art. The best medium for story telling? If your answer is yes, 'That girl in yellow boots' is the treat from Anurag Kashyap to you. Anurag has been a great story teller since always. He is really going out of his way for helping the evolving bollywood cinema. The individualistic style of direction and directing every story in unique way have always been his plus points. This man hasnt turned me down till now and Kalki Koechlin is proving herself the fantastic partner for a man like him.  
The film is all about the search of a daughter of her father. Ruth, the british girl who has come all the way down to India, working in massage parlor, fighting with day to day challenges faced by a single foreigner woman in India is searching her father who has sent her a letter suddenly from nowhere and she knows nothing about him but his name. With disturbed relations with her mother, her urge to be loved by someone unconditionally makes her do all the stuff, she might hasnt done in other case. Naseeruddin Shah has added million stars to the film by his small role of Diwakar. The significance of the role and his pain when he realizes Ruth's real work strikes at the end when she finds out her father. The peculiar characters and places used in the film are just too perfect and they just create the atmosphere and feel of the film. The roles of Chittiappa and Maya add humor at few points. Prashant has well played the character of drug addict boyfriend.   
Though Rajat Kapoor is a cameo, I couldnt understand the purpose completely. I mean it serves the purpose of cameo and nothing else. The ending would have been equally effective even if he was not used at the climax. The shocking ending of the films leaves us disturbed. This makes the role of Diwakar even brighter. At the end viewers are left to think did she really miss the actual father's relation she was to get just because Diwakar was not her biological father?

Bol

Many times while watching films on social issues, people tend to ignore the mistakes as the story being told or the severity of an issue touches more to any sensible person. But Shoaib Mansoor should get the full credit for this intelligent project which he has handled with the maturity needed for it. After 'Khuda kay liye', he as addressed the another social issue in Pakistan (and hence in all under developed societies in the world) which got the record breaking reception at box office there.

The whole story unfolds in flashback when Zainub (Humaima Malik)- sentenced to death tells her story to media. The brilliant project is must watch experience on big screen so, wont speak much about the story but one just cant stop himself from praising the excellent result of the efforts taken by the crew. The acting of everyone is great. But there is no challenge to Humaima, Manzar Sehbai (Hakim sahab) and Zaib Rehman (Mother). All the characters in leading role have their unique personality and they succeed in leaving their print on viewers through their typical body language, tone and dialogues. The character of Hakim Sahab actually builds depression in mind while Zainub presents the hope and struggle for survival from her every move.  I was shocked when I saw Atif Aslam's name in the titles and the surprise was not really pleasant. He has not much role in it also the two sound tracks added in the movie dont add any value to the story. The songs seem like patch work on the beautiful piece. The first song coming the film "din pareshaan hai.." is rather more effective than those two of Atif's. The second song's scene is total filmy style and you suddenly wonder if the movie on the screen is changed abruptly to some bollywood film.. ;-) One might find the movie slow (I did). And its around 2.45 hr.But it has addressed the issue of sexual discrimination, religious extremism and problem of hermaphrodite child's family as well. The severity of the problems simply penetrates through our minds. Though the film ends on optimistic turn, it nowhere seems filmy or exaggerated. This is the huge success of Shoaib Mansoon. Even with couple of silly points in the story, I will strongly recommend every sensible person to watch the film.
